Daughter of Quiet American lands fifth consecutive Stakes win in the G1 Ogden Phipps Handicap to spark Darley-sired 1-2 as Seventh Street finishes second; news Stakes winners for Street Cry and Cherokee Run

Seattle Smooth and Seventh Street, daughters of Quiet American and Street Cry respectively, landed the quinella in the G1 Ogden Phipps Handicap at Belmont Park on Saturday.

Seattle Smooth, who was recording her fifth straight Stakes victory and her first at the highest level, got the better of long-time leader Seventh Street, coming home a length and a quarter to the good, with the runner-up more than two lengths clear of the third-placed Sea Chanter.

Trainer Anthony Dutrow indicated that Seattle Smooth, who was bred by Dr Oscar Benavides and Darley and is out of Our Seattle Star (Seattle Song), may now head to the Spa for the G1 Go For Wand Stakes on 2 August.

Seventh Street was making her first appearance since winning the G1 Apple Blossom Handicap on 4 April and she was not the only Stakes performer for her sire on a busy Saturday. The Australian-bred Eight Street won the G3 Cup Trial at Clairwood in South Africa, while closer to home Temple Street was third in the G2 Fleur du Lys Handicap and Princess Haya ran second in the Listed John W. Rooney Memorial Stakes.

There was also Stakes success for Cherokee Run when his daughter Cherokee Queen was the wide-margin winner of the Listed Possibly Perfect Stakes at Arlington Park. The four-year-old was bred by her owner J Mack Robinson from the Virginia Rapids mare Virginia Bee.
