Fibber overtook Graded Stakes winner Tarifa in deep stretch on her way to posting a two-and-a-quarter length victory in the $175,000 Audubon Oaks at Ellis Park on Sunday, 11 Aug.
The three-year-old daughter of Frosted, who was Stakes-placed three times prior to her start in the Audubon, finally broke through to notch her first Stakes win and improve her record to 4-1-3 in 10 starts.
At the start it was Tambo (Enticed) and Mink’s Palace (Palace Malice) that went to the front to set the pace. Tarifa was in just off those two in third, with Fibber content to set just off the pace in fourth. The order remained unchanged down the backstretch, but Tarifa began to reel in the leaders on the far turn before taking the lead at the top of the lane. Fibber loomed a dangerous threat on the far outside, quickly sweeping past Tarifa at the sixteenth pole and drawing off to win convincingly.
Bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings LLC, Fibber is out of Devious Intent, a Graded Stakes-winning daughter of Dixie Union. Winner of the G3 Gardenia Stakes during her racing career, Devious Intent is a half-sister to multiple Stakes winner Pioneer Spirit (Malibu Moon), and hails from the family of Graded Stakes winners Uncle Heavy, Runspastum and Graded Stakes-placed Next Level.
Frosted is having an outstanding year, with eight Stakes winners to his credit. In addition to Fibber the stallion is represented by Graded Stakes winners Post Time, already a three-time Stakes winner in 2024, including victories in the G2 Carter Stakes and G3 General George; Frost Free, winner of the G3 Chick Lang Stakes; the talented juvenile Bustling, a three-time Graded Stakes winner in Australia and Frost At Dawn (G3 Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint).
