Godolphin homebred Pisces graduated to Stakes winner with an impressive two-and-and-a-half length victory in the G3 Blue Sapphire Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday, 16 November.
The promising three-year-old Frosted gelding, who was making just his second start of the season, entered the race off a sharp runner-up finish in the G3 Red Anchor Stakes in late October. Pisces has now finished in the money in eight of ten starts.
Partnered once again by the red-hot James McDonald, Pisces broke sharply and was settled off the pace early in sixth through the initial stages of the seven-furlong contest. As the field turned for home, McDonald swung Pisces three-wide for a clear run at the leaders. The gelding quickly swept past Rue De Royale in the final furlong to win easily.
Bred in Australia, Pisces is out the mare Pleiades, a multiple Graded Stakes-placed daughter of Redoute’s Choice. Pleiades’ Graded Stakes-placed full-sister, Glissade, in turn, is the dam of Flit (Medaglia d’Oro), winner of the G1 Schweppes Thousand Guineas, and of Speedway, dam of the multiple G1-winning colt, Broadsiding (Too Darn Hot).
Pisces is one of 11 Stakes winners this year for his sire, Frosted, who has also been represented by Post Time, a multiple Graded Stakes winner that was recently second in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile; Frost Free (G3 Chick Lang Stakes), Frost At Dawn (G3 Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint), Bustling, a three-time Graded Stakes winner in Australia, and Winterberry, winner of the Glorious Song Stakes at Woodbine.
Frosted will stand the 2025 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $15,000 stands and nurses.
