Solemn Tribute took the lead early then held off a host of challengers in the stretch to win the Tropical Park Derby by a determined head.
It was the first Stakes victory for the son of Medaglia d’Oro, who has captured three of his last five starts.
Bred in Ontario by Anderson Farms, Solemn Tribute is out of Loving Vindication, a winning daughter of champion Vindication. Solemn Tribute hails from the female family of Chimichurri, winner of the G3 Tempted Stakes, and Folk Art, winner of the G1 Oak Leaf.
Medaglia d’Oro is having a tremendous year in 2015. In addition to Solemn Tribute, Medaglia d’Oro is the sire of Songbird, winner of the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies; Mshawish, winner of the G1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap; and G2 winners Gold Medal Dancer, Sentiero Italia, and Mrs McDougal.
Medaglia d'Oro will stand for a fee of $150,000 (stands and nurses) in 2016.
