Gallatin stays strong in Tulloch Stakes

Sentimental victory for Street Cry three-year-old in Tommy Berry Tulloch Stakes

After the recent passing on jockey Nathan Berry, the G2 Tulloch Stakes at Rosehill Gardens was renamed in the jockey’s honour and it was a very emotional victory for all concerned as Street Cry three-year-old Gallatin recorded his maiden Stakes victory in the race.

Settling at the tail of the field and at one stage some five-plus lengths off the last horse, jockey Nash Rawiller allowed the Peter Snowden-trained gelding to race where he was comfortable.

Searching for runs through the field, Gallatin found gaps as he came out wide, and chased down the last start winner Singing Flame to give his sire his 74th Stakes winner.

With the option to now head to the G1 Australian Derby next Saturday, connections indicated this was all dependant on how the three-year-old pulled up.

Bred by Darley, Gallatin is out of the British-bred, France-raced Danehill mare Mayfield, a half-sister to the G3 winners Fractional and Needlecraft. Currently in foal to Champion Sire Lonhro, Mayfield has a two-year-old Lonhro filly named Claudine and a yearling full-brother to Gallatin.

As the sire of 15 G1 winners including Champion mare Zenyatta, the G1 Melbourne Cup hero Shocking and the history-making Street Sense, Street Cry stands the 2014 breeding season for $100,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
