West is the best

Elusive Quality’s great week continues with another Stakes win for West Ocean

Elusive Quality filly West Ocean notched her third black-type victory in the Giant’s Causeway Stakes at Keeneland, scorching away from her rivals to land the five-and-half furlong contest by four and three-quarter lengths.

This was her second consecutive wide-margin score after taking the Bienville Stakes on March 26 by five lengths. She has also been successful over the extended trip of eight-and-a-half furlongs when winning last year’s Flitalong Stakes at Aqueduct.

Bred by SyBon Racing Stable, the four-year-old is out of Ocean Drive (Belong To Me) and races in the colors of the Wertheimer family. In eight starts she has won five and finished second twice.

West Ocean completes a successful week for her sire who topped the Tattersalls Craven breeze-up sale in the UK when a colt out of G3 winner Love Match sold for 400,000gns (a little more than $650,000). That same day, Elusive Pimpernel highlighted his prospects for glory in the 2000 Guineas in a fortnight’s time when winning the G3 Craven Stakes in impressive fashion.

Saturday also saw black-type performances for two sons of Street Cry. Five-year-old entire Victor’s Cry ran second in the G3 San Simeon Handicap while overseas My Dark Chocolate was the runner-up in the Listed Macau Derby over 1800m.
