Medaglia d'Oro begins 2016 with a bang

Durendal records his maiden Stakes win with victory in the G3 Standish Handicap at Flemington

After enjoying a hugely successful 2015, Medaglia d’Oro has begun 2016 with a bang with his son Durendal claiming the G3 Standish Handicap over 1200m at Flemington, January 1.

Chasing a third consecutive victory, Durendal jumped well from the barriers and quickly settled outside the leader. The four-year-old took control of the race a furlong from home and went on to claim a dominant win.

A homebred for David and Jenny Moodie’s Contract Racing Pty Ltd, Durendal is the fourth Stakes winner from G3-winning Blazing Sword mare Razor Blade. His Black type-winning siblings include Exceed And Excel’s 10th G1 winner Flamberge and his full-sister Curtana, as well as G1 performer Sunburnt Land.

Medaglia d’Oro was the sire of 29 Stakes winners in 2015 including G1 Golden Slipper winner Vancouver, dual G1-winning juvenile filly Songbird and Mshawish, who claimed the G1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap.

Medaglia d’Oro will stand the 2016 breeding season at a fee of $150,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
