Quiet American's Absinthe Minded notched her second Stakes victory January 21 with a potent score in the Pippin Stakes at Oaklawn Park. Already a winner of the Bayakoa Stakes over the same track in 2011, the five-year-old mare has also placed in four Graded events including the G1 Apple Blossom Handicap.
The consistent Absinthe Minded shined today for the fantastic victory in the one and one-sixteenth mile race to begin 2012. The daughter of Quiet American set the pace throughout. When challenged in the stretch, she held off foes with a determined and hard-fought drive to prove herself best for Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas.
The five-year-old filly was bred in Kentucky by Briland Farm, Robert Mitchell, and Stacy Mitchell. She is out of the Great Above mare Rockford Peach, a half-sister to Puerto Rican Champion El Ordenador.
A powerful influence of soundness and class, there isn't much Quiet American hasn't achieved at stud. He has sired two Eclipse Champions and 14 G1 winners. His top performers through the years include G1 Kentucky Derby winner Real Quiet, G1 winner Cara Rafaela - the dam of the fantastic Bernardini, and his sensational G1-winning sprinter Switch. Quiet American stands for $15,000 in 2012.
