Flame Thrower, by Hard Spun, put forth a dominating performance at Fair Grounds December 17. The two-year-old filly is the 26th juvenile winner for Hard Spun, who is the leading freshman sire in the US currently.
The Hard Spun filly took charge at the front to start the six furlong race. Never losing control of the lead, Flame Thrower took off from the field near the five-sixteenths pole and drew away in the stretch by a commanding three and three-quarter lengths under Corey Lanerie.
Flame Thrower was bred by Bert Klein, Elaine Klein, and Richard Klein and is out of the Mystery Storm mare Swept Away, a multiple Graded Stakes winner of more than $500,000. She is a half-sister to Stakes winner/Graded-placed Cash Refund, Stakes winner Early Return, as well as Graded Stakes-placed filly Swept Gold.
Leading the US first crop sires, Hard Spun has had a tremendous start at stud with 26 winners. A son of the great Danzig, he is the sire of nine two-year-old Stakes horses. These runners have shown plenty of quality, including G2 winner Red Duke and five other Graded/Group horses. His Stakes winners include the talented fillies Yvete Sangalo and Hard Not To Like.
