Henny Hughes two-year-old colt Bertie's Bell earned the title of ‘Sires-first-winner in Australia’ when claiming victory on the turf at Launceston on December 14.
The victory came at just the second start for the colt and he now joins the Stakes-placed Lil Red Corvette as their sires flag bearers in his first crop to race in the southern hemisphere.
Bertie's Bells was bred by Cathy Hains' Burnewang North and was purchased by one of his part-owners for $10,000 at the 2010 Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale. He is the second winner for metropolitan winning mare Jamelden, a half-sister by Kenny's Best Pal to Group I SAJC Derby winner Testafiable.
G1 winning sprinter Henny Hughes is the sire of nine Stakes horses from his first two crops of runners in the northern hemisphere which includes three-year-olds such as the G3 winner Henny Hound, Stakes winner Fort Hughes and Midnight Visit, while his two-year-old crop include G3 winner She Digs Me and Stakes horses My Due Process, Swift Artist and Play Eighteen.
Henny Hughes will stand the 2012 season for $12,500, Stands and Nurses.
