It has been a memorable week for Elusive Quality, who has sired three new Stakes winners this week courtesy of Baharah, Honest Quality and Elusive Horizon.
Baharah's victory in the Listed Valiant Stakes at Ascot sets her up for a tilt at the G1 Matron Stakes at Leopardstown in early September. The Darley-bred is out of Bahr (Generous), a talented racemare in her day who won the G2 Musidora Stakes and was placed in the Oaks.
Honest Quality has had just three runs to date but she is certainly shaping as a filly with great promise, winning the seven-furlong (1400m) Listed Able Star Stakes at Sandown, also in the UK in tenacious fashion on Thursday for her first slice of black type.
The two year-old ran third on her debut at Newmarket in May before returning triumphant a fortnight later in a competitive York maiden. The Juddmonte homebred is out of Honest Lady (Seattle Slew), who is a half-sister to Belmont Stakes winner Empire Maker and Arlington Million winner Chester House, both from the Mr Prospector sireline as is Elusive Quality.
Standing in the US and Australia, Elusive Quality does not have many runners in Europe but he has been well represented by his small number of starters, which also include Raven’s Pass, who is owned by his breeder Stonerside Stable and was runner-up in the G1 Prix Jean Prat on 13 June. A record-breaking G3 winner as a two-year-old, the John-Gosden-trained colt is set to run next in Wednesday’s G1 Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.
Elusive Horizon won Sunday’s Washington’s Lottery Handicap at Emerald Downs, the week's three victories bringing Elusive Quality's tally of Stakes winners to 38.
