Quality Road, by Darley stallion Elusive Quality, ran out an impressive winner of the G2 Fountain Of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream on Saturday.
Sent off the fourth choice, he was only having his third career start after an Aqueduct Maiden win and an Allowance second at Gulfstream. Tracking the fast early pace in second, he made his move rounding the turn and drew away to record an easy four-and-a-quarter length triumph with a further four lengths back to the third. His trainer Jimmy Jerkens has nominated the G1's Florida Derby or Wood Memorial as possible options for his impressive colt.
Bred and owned by Edward Evans, Quality Road is out of Kobla, a full-sister to the champion Ajina, a winner of three G1 races including the Breeders' Cup Distaff, who incidentally has just had a filly foal by Elusive Quality's barn-mate Bernardini.
