Four-year-old Street Cry filly named in honour of Sheikh Mohammed’s wife Princess Haya recorded her first Stakes success on Sunday when winning the G2 Canadian Stakes over nine furlongs (1800m).
Bred by her owner Eileen H Hartis, Princess Haya was runner-up in the John W Rooney Memorial Stakes in June and filled the same slot in the Matchmaker Stakes at Monmouth Park. A determined run along the rail saw her snatch victory from multiple Grade One winner Forever Together.
Princess Haya has now won four and placed in six of her 13 career starts, amassing earnings of $307,362.
As Keeneland’s marathon yearling sale continued throughout the weekend, another Street Cry filly was making headlines as she topped Sunday’s session when knocked down to John Oxley for $370,000. Out of Manda Island, by Dynaformer, she was consigned by Paramount Sales on behalf of Dermot O’Rourke’s Plantation Stud.
Henny Hughes was responsible for the third highest price of the day when a colt out of Wild And Wonderful fetched $240,000.
