Four-year-old Star Guitar, a son of Quiet American, made Louisiana’s Champions’ Day his own once again when landing the Classic Stakes by seven-and-three-quarter lengths.
The Brittlyn Stable-bred colt won the six-furlong Juvenile Stakes on the same day in 2007 before returning last year to take the Sprint Stakes over the same distance.
This season has been one to remember for the connections of Star Guitar as he has won five Stakes races in the build-up to Saturday’s victory, including the Listed Evangeline Downs Mile Handicap in August. He was third in the G3 Alysheba Stakes over eight-and-a-half furlongs back in May and his most recent win saw his extend in distance again to nine furlongs.
Star Guitar is out of the Malagra mare Minit Towinit and is a half brother to the dual Stakes winner Grand Minit.
Also at Fair Grounds, She’s Our Annie, a three-year-old by Medaglia d'Oro, sprinted to success in the Listed Esplanade Stakes for her third black type win of the year after victories in the Dream Supreme Handicap and Prima Donna Stakes.
Bred by Destiny Oaks, She’s Our Annie is out of Girl Gone Crazy, by Roar. She is one of nine Stakes winners for her sire this year, including the G1 trio of Rachel Alexandra, Gabby’s Golden Gal and Passion For Gold.
