The opening session of the Fasig-Tipton July Selected Yearlings Sale proved extremely successful for the Darley stallions, who were responsible for no fewer than six of the top ten lots.
The highest price of the day was $450,000, given by John Ferguson for a gray Medaglia d'Oro colt out of Beright (Gray Slewpy) – already dam of a G2 winner in Principle Secret.
Outstanding Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense had one yearling offered on Tuesday, who was bought by Whisper Hill Farm’s Mandy Pope for $250,000. He is out of the Saint Ballado mare Hishikatsu Ballado, herself a daughter of five-time G1 winner Twice The Vice.
Six yearlings by Discreet Cat were sold on the day, averaging a highly respectable $127,500. His highest price of the session (and the fourth highest price overall) was $235,000 given by Twin Creeks for Christina Welker and Lochlow Farm’s colt out of the Stakes-placed mare Princess Birdeye. The dam’s only foal to race – Navigator - is already a Black type winner.
Hard Spun (pictured) posted the highest average of any first-season sire, with six of his yearlings selling for an average of $140,833. He too figured in the day’s top lots when his colt out of Kew Gardens was bought by John Ferguson for $190,000. Already dam of a juvenile Stakes winner, Kew Gardens is a half-sister to two Graded Stakes producers, including Contrive – dam of multiple G1 winner Folklore.
G1 Haskell winner Any Given Saturday had one yearling sell and the handsome dark bay colt, offered by Woodford Thoroughbreds, did not fail to impress when knocked down to Maverick Racing for $225,000. Out of the unraced Mr Prospector mare Go For It Lady, he is a half brother to G3 winner and multiple G1 placer Spring Meadow.
