Bernardini, the first horse since Damascus to win the G1 treble of the Preakness, Travers and the Jockey Club Gold Cup all in the same year, has kept up his excellent result from day one with four yearlings selling for an average of US$371,250 on day two.
The top-priced Bernardini yearling of the second session was hip 127, consigned by Lane’s End Farm as agent. Knocked down to Whitehorse Stable/Foye Genetics, the colt is out of the G1 Epsom Oaks-winning Red Ransom mare Casual Look.
Another Bernardini yearling to sell well was hip 137, the Three Chimneys as agent consigned grey/roan filly out of the Affirmed mare Cuando Quiere. A half-sister to three Stakes winners including the G1-winning Lasting Approval mare Honey Ryder, the filly was knocked down to Besilu Stables for US$410,000.
Rarely out of the spotlight, Medaglia d’Oro (pictured) had one lot sell during the second session of selling, realising US$335,000 to the final bid of Vision Sales 2010. Consigned by Wood Edge Farm, the colt is a half-brother to the G2-winning, G1-placed King Of Kings mare Sweet Win.
The very next yearling through the ring was by the G1-winning King’s Bishop Stakes winner Hard Spun. Knocked down to Sheikh Hamdan’s Shadwell Estate Company, the colt is out of the multiple Stakes-placed Unbridled mare Windsong. Having already purchased 12 yearlings, Shadwell parted with US$250,000 to secure this lovely brown colt.
Shadwell were once again back in the fray later during the evening, signing for hip 188, the Taylor Made Sale Agency consigned Street Cry filly. Out of a full-sister to the G2 winner Moon Queen, the colt achieved US$400,000 for her connections.
Street Sense was not going to let his G1 Dubai World Cup-winning sire out do him, having one lot sell during the second night session of the sale, making US$250,000 for the Taylor Made Sales Agency. Purchased by Oliver St. Lawrence, the colt is a half-brother to the Tiznow colt Informed.
The sale continues tomorrow and runs until Sunday September 26.
