It only took 25 hips into Friday’s session for champion Bernardini to light up the bid board at Keeneland’s September Yearling Sale as one of his daughters, a filly out of the winning Rahy mare Rahy Rose, was knocked down for $230,000. A half-sister to G3 winner Summer Raven (dam of G3 winner Winslow Homer), hip number 1213 was consigned by Mt. Brilliant Farm, LLC, and was purchased by John Ferguson.
Just a little over a dozen hips later, it was a colt by G1 Haskell Invitational winner Any Given Saturday that travelled into six figures bringing a final bid of $130,000. Out of the listed winner Really Royal, he was consigned by Hinkle Farms, Agent, and was purchased by Jim and Susan Hill.
But it was a colt that resulted from the mating of G1 stakes winners Street Cry and Sand Springs that topped the Darley sires during Friday’s session, a bay that was hammered down at $350,000 for new owners Repole Stables/Crupi New Castle Farm. A half-brother to Listed winner and G3-placed Mellon Martini, hip number 1290 was consigned by Mill Ridge Sales, Agent.
