Heading to the barriers as the shortest priced favourite since Rancher took the race in 1982, two-year-old Elusive Quality colt Sepoy was simply devastating, winning the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes by four-and-a-quarter lengths and in the process recording the second fastest time ever recorded in the race.
Unbeaten in four starts to date – all at Stakes level, the impressive looking chestnut colt sat outside the leader Anevay (Exceed And Excel) and rounding the home turn put the race beyond doubt, skipping away to record a memorable victory.
Currently the highest rated two-year-old in the southern hemisphere, Sepoy is now likely to have a short break before being aimed at the G1 Golden Slipper in five weeks time.
Bred by Darley Australia, Sepoy races in the maroon and white silks of Sheikh Mohammed. Out of the Danehill mare Watchful, a full-sister to the G1 Queensland Derby Camarena, Sepoy is a full-brother in blood to Elusive Quality’s fellow southern hemisphere G1-winning two-year-old Camarilla.
Elusive Quality is the sire of 64 Stakes winners globally, highlighted by Kentucky Derby winner Smarty Jones, G1 winner Quality Road and Breeders’ Cup winner Raven’s Pass who stands at Darley’s Kildangan property in Ireland.
