Four of the top-priced two-year-olds by freshman sires going through the ring at Fasig-Tipton’s Palm Meadows sale on March 3 were progeny of Darley’s freshman sires with stallions Hard Spun and Street Sense holding down the top two spots.
Hip number 67, a bay colt by Hard Spun out of a half-sister to Champion Forever Together, was knocked down for $575,000 and found a home with Brushwood Stable. Hip number 26, a half-brother to G3 winner Richwoman, put Street Sense in the number two position receiving a final bid of $400,000 from Eric Fein. One hip prior, another colt by Street Sense caught the eye of Dogwood Stables fetched a final bid of $200,000. Hip number 74, a colt by Any Given Saturday, realized a final bid of $150,000 making it a fine day for the Darley team.
Medaglia d'Oro was another Darley sire that had a great showing with three of his progeny selling for an average of over $350,000. Hot young sire Bernardini was not to be outdone as the final tally saw his average approaching the $300,000 mark. Darley stallion Rockport Harbor, one of the top freshman sires of 2010, also had a solid sale with three of his progeny averaging nearly $157,000 each.
