Multiple Stakes winner May Day Rose soared to victory again May 21 at Hollywood to earn herself a spot in the winner's circle for the G3 Railbird Stakes. It was the second Graded Stakes win for the filly, who showed her class in the G3 Santa Ysabel at the beginning of January.
The three-year-old Rockport Harbor filly settled comfortably into position just off the pace. Into the stretch of the seven furlong race, May Day Rose went wide to surge past rivals and dominate under the reigns of Joel Rosario. It was the second win in a row for the filly as she took the Instant Racing Stakes at Oaklawn in April.
Trained by Bob Baffert, May Day Rose was a $220,000 two-year-old purchase by owner Kaleem Shah. The Rockport Harbor filly was bred in Florida by Bridlewood Farm. She is out of the Pine Bluff mare May Day Bluff, who has also produced the Stakes winning filly May Day Vow. May Day Bluff is a half-sister to Graded Stakes winner Roza Robata and Stakes winner Burger Day.
A top second crop sire, Rockport Harbor has sired 40 winners to date from his first crop of runners. In addition to May Day Rose, he is represented by Stakes winner Bear's Future as well as the Stakes-placed runners Minutesandtouches, Cane Garden Bay, and Sinai. The son of Unbridled's Song stands for $12,500 Stands and Nurses.
