Freedom Star, a five-year-old mare by Street Cry, captured her third Stakes race in a row June 24 at Prairie Meadows in the Iowa Distaff Stakes at one and one-sixteenth miles. In March Freedom Star easily claimed victory in the G3 Azeri Stakes at Oaklawn, then returned later in the month with a wire-to-wire victory in the Harry Henson Handicap at Sunland Park.
The heavily favored Street Cry mare broke well from the gate and took command at the front of the field. Maintaining a nice lead, Freedom Star accelerated in the stretch and continued on to easily cross the wire in front. Bella Medaglia, by Medaglia d'Oro, completed the exacta.
Freedom Star is the first foal out of the multiple Stakes winner Willie's Luv, by Williamstown, the earner of over $200,000. She is from the family of Monmouth G3 winner American Freedom as well as the sire It's Freezing. The mare was bred by Y. Kolybabiuk.
Just one week ago, Street Cry's son Street Game wired a victory in the G3 Hill Prince Stakes at Belmont Park. A leading international sire, he is also the sire of Horse of the Year Zenyatta, and G1 winning Darley stallions Street Sense and Street Boss. The fee for Street Cry is $150,000 Stands and Nurses.
