Street Cry sired another impressive juvenile Stakes scorer on Saturday August 13, when his son Fencing broke his maiden in the Listed Washington Singer Stakes at Newbury. Racing for only the second time after a maiden third at Newmarket, he tracked the leaders early, cruised up to the leaders two furlongs from home before running on really well to win going away by two-and-a-half lengths, beating Telwar with Fencing's paternal half-brother Leqqaa gaining his first Stakes-place back in third. Although the race is nearly a year away he has now been promoted to favourite for the 2012 Derby.
Owned and bred by George Strawbridge, he is out of the top-class French-trained mare Latice, winner of the French Oaks. Latice is herself a half-sister to the French Derby winner Lawman and has given birth to a full-brother to Fencing this year.
Street Cry's juveniles this season have been carrying all before them. Only last week he sired the impressive G3-winning filly Discourse, one of the favourites for next seasons 1,000 Guineas, as well as the impressive Maiden scorers Minidress at Newmarket and And Why Not at Saratoga.
