Meshtri handled his first Graded Stakes attempt with aplomb as he went wire-to-wire to capture the G2 Al Maktoum Mile by three lengths at Meydan Racecourse on Friday, 20 December.

It was the second straight Stakes win for the four-year-old Medaglia d’Oro gelding, after taking the Listed Dubai Creek Mile in his previous start. Just like he did in the Dubai Creek Mile, Meshtri dictated the pace from the start and was never seriously threatened as he drew off through the stretch to win easily over Qareeb. The highly regarded Artorius and Clapton had to settle for third and fifth, respectively.

Meshtri was bred in Kentucky by Candy Meadows LLC and is out of Clothes Fall Off, a Stakes-winning/multiple Graded Stakes-placed mare by Daaher. Clothes Fall Off is out of the Stakes-winning/Graded Stakes-placed mare, Tequilas Dayjur, and is a full sister to Graded Stakes-placed Strawberry Tequila and a half-sister to Stakes-placed One Last Shot.

Meshtri is one of several recent Stakes winners for Medaglia d’Oro, who is also represented in 2024 by the undefeated juvenile filly Good Cheer, winner of both the G2 Pocahontas Stakes and Listed Rags to Riches Stakes. Additional Graded Stakes winners include East Avenue (G1 Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity), Grand Sonata (G2 Kentucky Turf Cup) and Loved (G3 Falls City Stakes).

Medaglia d’Oro will stand the 2025 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $75,000, stands and nurses.
