Post Time kicked off the new year on a winning note with a stylish last to first victory in the slop to take the $75,000 Jennings Stakes at Laurel Park on Sunday, 28 January.
It was the second straight Stakes win for the four-year-old Frosted colt, who closed out 2023 with a victory in the City of Laurel Stakes in late November. All told, Post Time now boast three Stakes wins, having captured the Maryland Juvenile as a two-year-old. His overall record is an impressive six victories and a third-place finish in seven career starts.
Patiently ridden by jockey Sheldon Russell, Post Time broke a step slow and raced in last as Holy Synchronicity and Seven’s Eleven battled each other through the opening half-mile. Post Time began making up ground on the far turn before splitting rivals at the top of the stretch to take command of the race. The grey colt drew off through the stretch to win by six-and-a-half lengths.
Bred in Maryland by Dr. & Mrs. Thomas Bowman, Dr. Brooke Bowman and Milton P. Higgins III, Post Time is out of the mare Vielsalm, a Stakes-winning daughter of Fairbanks. Vielsalm is a full sister to Stakes-placed Open the Bank, and hails from the family of G1 winners Rose’s Cantina and Fancy Naskra.
Post Time joins Icicles as 2024 Stakes winners for their sire, Frosted. The four-year-old filly, Icicles, captured the $125,000 Likely Exchange Stakes at Turfway Park earlier this month. Frosted entered the new year off a successful 2023, which saw him represented by Graded Stakes winners Frost Point (G3 Doubledogdare), Ice Dancing (G3 Santa Ynez) and Jasper Krone (G3 winner in Japan), in addition to Listed winners Sister Lou Ann and Be My Sunshine.
Frosted will stand the 2024 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $10,000, stands and nurses.
