Golden Canary broke her maiden and became a Stakes winner in one fell swoop with an impressive front-running victory in the Listed Soaring Free Stakes at Woodbine on Sunday, 20 August.
Making just her second career start, the two-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro belied her inexperience with a gutsy display, turning back the challenge of Dancing Duchess in deep stretch to win by a neck.
Bred in Kentucky by Bonne Chance Farm LLC, Golden Canary is out of Black Canary, a Stakes-placed daughter of War Front. Black Canary is a half-sister to Stakes-placed Joe Tess and is out of the Graded Stakes-placed mare, Forty Moves. Also hailing from the immediate female family are Graded Stakes winners Cat Moves (G1 Prioress Stakes) and Hootenanny (G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf).
Medaglia d’Oro has now sired 174 Stakes winners including 91 that have struck at Group or Graded level. They include Hong Kong’s two-time Horse of the Year, Golden Sixty, Australian G3 winner Kallos, and recent Stakes winners White Moonlight, Ticker Tape Home and Monaasib.
