Randomized took command right out of the starting gate and was never threatened on her way to cruising to a four-length victory in the G1 Alabama Stakes at Saratoga on Saturday, 19 August.
It was the second straight Stakes win for the three-year-old Nyquist filly, who entered the 10-furlong Alabama off a victory in the one-mile Wilton Stakes earlier in the meet. Randomized improved her record to three wins and a third-place finish in just five career starts.
Breaking alertly from the starting gate, Randomized was sent immediately to the lead by jockey Joel Rosario. The Chad Brown trainee set comfortable fractions up front as favored Wet Paint, winner of the G1 Coaching Club American Oaks last time out, rated off the pace while saving ground along the inside rail.
Wet Paint attempted to rally as Randomized drifted a bit wide at the top of the lane, but she could never really get close and had to settle for second behind the improving Randomized. Defining Purpose came in third.
Bred in Kentucky by Cove Springs, LLC, Randomized was a $420,000 purchase at the 2021 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. She is the fourth foal out of the unraced Elusive Quality mare French Passport, a half-sister to G2 winners Smooth Air and Overdriven. French Passport has a yearling filly by Frosted and a weanling filly by Maxfield.
Randomized is one of seven Black Type winners in 2023 for her sire Nyquist, a list that also includes juvenile filly Crimson Advocate, winner of the G2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, New York Thunder, the dominating winner of the G2 Amsterdam Stakes at Saratoga, as well as multiple Stakes winners Johannes and Flying Connection, and Stakes winners Hacking It Up and Xigera.
