Baytown Chatterbox came from off the pace with a powerful rally in the stretch to capture the $150,000 Ellis Park Juvenile Stakes by two and a half lengths on Sunday, 13 August. Call Me Andy, by fellow Darley stallion Midshipman, finished third.
The two-year-old Street Sense gelding entered the race off a maiden special weight victory at Horseshoe Indianapolis last time out.
Overlooked by the bettors and sent off at long odds, the Paul McEntee-trained Baytown Chatterbox was settled off the pace as Dunphy and Balta battled for the early lead. Baytown Chatterbox, who was racing a bit greenly throughout, moved out into the three path on the far turn for a clear run at the leaders.
Baytown Chatterbox took aim on the new leaders Balta and Call Me Andy in the stretch, eventually sweeping past them and drawing off to post the victory.
Baytown Chatterbox was bred in Kentucky by Alpha Delta Stables LLC and is out of Stakes winner and G1 Stakes-placed Endless Chatter (First Samurai). In addition to Baytown Chatterbox, Street Sense is represented by 2023 Stakes winners Never Explain (G3 Dinner Party Stakes), First Mission (G3 Lexington Stakes) and Road Bloc (Listed Jebel Ali Sprint).
