Post Time went from being completely ‘out of the picture’ to having his picture taken in the winner’s circle with a sweeping last-to-first charge to win the $100,000 Maryland Juvenile Stakes by three-and-three-quarter lengths at Laurel Park on Saturday, 3 December.
It was the first Stakes victory for the juvenile son of Frosted, who remains perfect in three career starts.
Sent off as the favorite in the field of seven, Post Time broke alertly and was settled in last, some 10 lengths behind the early leader, Johnyz From Albany. Post Time continued to trail the field down the backstretch but was angled out and given his cue leaving the far turn. He quickly began making up ground while racing four-wide, all the while still under just mild urging from his rider. He cruised up alongside leader Johnyz From Albany with a furlong remaining, then drew off with complete authority to win with ease.
Bred in Maryland by Dr. & Mrs. Thomas Bowman, Dr. Brooke Bowman and Milton P. Higgins III, Post Time is out of the mare Vielsalm, a Stakes-winning daughter of Fairbanks. Vielsalm is a full sister to Stakes-placed Open the Bank, and hails from the family of G1 winners Rose’s Cantina and Fancy Naskra.
In addition to Post Time, Frosted is the sire of another exciting juvenile colt in Arctic Arrogance, winner of the Sleepy Hollow Stakes and a close second in the G2 Remsen Stakes. Frosted is also represented by Canadian Sovereign Award-winning Champion 3-year-old colt, Frosted Over; Half is Enough, winner of the Glen Cove Stakes and Macron, winner of the Iowa Sprint Stakes.
Frosted will stand the 2023 breeding season at Jonabell Farm in Kentucky for $10,000, stands and nurses.
