Two Phil’s swept to the lead on the far turn and then proceeded to pull away through the stretch on his way to posting a nine-and-three-quarter length victory in the Shakopee Juvenile Stakes at Canterbury Park on Saturday, 17 September.
It was the first Stakes win for the two-year-old Hard Spun colt, who improved his record to two wins from three career starts.
Breaking sharply out of the starting gate, Two Phil’s was forwardly placed early, sitting just off the flank of leader Blackteca. Entering the far turn, Two Phil’s made his move, quickly zipping past Blackteca and taking the lead. He continued to draw off through the stretch, crossing under the wire an easy winner.
Bred in Kentucky by Phillip Sagan and raced in partnership by Sagan with Patricia’s Hope, Two Phil’s is out of Mia Torri, a Multiple Stakes-winning and Graded Stakes-placed daughter of General Quarters.
Two Phil’s is one of 11 Stakes winners this year for his sire, Hard Spun. In addition to the Shakopee Juvenile winner, Hard Spun has sired recent Stakes winners Sister Seagull, Hard Empire (G2 in Aust.), Aloha West, Sparkle Blue, Loyalty and Spun Glass.
