Golden Sixty, a son of Medaglia d’Oro, defended his G1 Champion Mile title with an emphatic victory at Sha Tin on Sunday, 24 April.
The five-time G1 winner cruised into contention at the final turn, running on powerfully in the final furlong to win by two lengths. In doing so, Golden Sixty achieved a remarkable feat, becoming the highest earning horse in Hong Kong history. He will now head to the G1 Yasuda Kinen to take on the best milers in Japan.
Foaled in Australia, Golden Sixty was bred by Asco International and is the best performer from the G2-winning Distorted Humour mare Gaudeamus. She is a half-sister to the Stakes-placed pair Leo’s Pegasus and Leo’s Luckyman, out of a Seattle Slew daughter of G1 1000 Guineas second Konafa. This is the family of G1 winners Act One, Ultra and last year’s Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Turf winner, Modern Games.
Medaglia d’Oro is the sire of 88 Group/Graded winners with 26 winning at the highest level including Breeder’s Cup Turf hero Talismanic and Golden Rose Stakes victor Astern, both of which now stand on the Darley roster.
