Champion galloper Golden Sixty repelled the internationals and also enhanced his burgeoning reputation when he won the HK$26 million (US$3.3 million) Longines Hong Kong Mile for the second time on Sunday, 12 December at Sha Tin.
The son of Medaglia d’Oro and Gaudeamus, took his brilliant record to 19 wins from 20 starts for prizemoney of a staggering HK$16,138,256 for lucky owner Stanley Chan Ka-Leung.
The gelding settled midfield on the fence in the 11-horse field before jockey Vincent Ho angled through in the home straight and Golden Sixty exploded to beat More Than This and Japanese raider Salios by two lengths, stopping the clock on 1:33.86 in the feature 1,600m event.
Golden Sixty was purchased at the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale by Riversley Park/Enigma Farm for AU$120,000 before being on-sold to Hong Kong via New Zealand Bloodstock's Ready to Run Sale for NZ$300,000.
Lightly raced for a six-year-old, Golden Sixty is now ready to take on the world in some of the richest races between 1,600m and 2,000m if trainer Frances Lui desires.
Medaglia d’Oro, who won eight races including three at G1 level and was placed seven times during his 17-start career, has sired 26 individual G1 winners.
He will stand at Darley’s Jonabell Farm in Kentucky in 2022 for a service fee of $100,000, stands and nurses.
