Dream Lith rallied from well off the pace and wore down pacesetter Yuugiri in deep stretch to win the G2 Golden Rod Stakes by a length at Churchill Downs Nov. 27.
The two-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, who entered the race off a fifth-place finish in the G1 Darley Alcibiades, earned ten qualifying points toward a berth in the 2022 G1 Kentucky Oaks with her victory.
Settled well off the pace in sixth early, Dream Lith began a sustained rally on the far turn, swinging out four to five-wide for a clear run at the leader. Dream Lith continued to charge down the center of the course and was able to reel in leader Yuugiri in the final strides to get the victory.
Bred in Kentucky by Southern Equine Stables LLC, Dream Lith is out of the Street Cry mare, Elle Sueno, a daughter of G1 Darley Debutante winner, Mi Sueno. Dream Lith’s third dam is multiple Graded Stakes winner Madcap Escapade, winner of the G1 Ashland Stakes.
Medaglia d’Oro has sired 18 Stakes winners in 2021 including Hong Kong’s reigning two-time Horse of the Year Golden Sixty, who has won 15 straight, including a recent victory in the G2 Jockey Club Mile. Other Graded Stakes winners including G2 Shannon Stakes hero Yonkers (in Australia), Navratilova, Vigilantes Way, Risk Taking, Moonlight d’Oro, and recent G3-winning juvenile Rockefeller.
Medaglia d'Oro will stand the 2022 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for a fee of $100,000, stands and nurses.
