Turnerloose took command heading for home and pulled away to post an impressive five-length victory in the eight-furlong Aristocrat Juvenile Fillies Stakes at Kentucky Downs Sept. 6.
The two-year-old Nyquist filly remains undefeated in two starts for owners Ike and Dawn Thrash. Turnerloose made her debut at Ellis Park in July, sitting just off the pace before pulling away late to capture an eight-furlong maiden special weight on the turf.
The Brad Cox trainee employed similar tactics in today’s contest, stalking leader Verylittlecents early while saving ground along the inside rail. Jockey Florent Geroux then swung her out into the five-path as the field hit the top of the lane, and Turnerloose took off, pulling away to “win for fun.”
Bred in Kentucky by William Humphries and Altair Farms LLC, Turnerloose is out of the mare Goaltending, an unraced daughter of A.P. Indy. Goaltending’s dam, Game Face, was a multiple Graded Stakes winner, with victories coming in the G1 Princess Rooney, G2 Inside Information and G2 Honorable Miss Stakes, among others.
The leading first crop sire of 2020, Nyquist's other Stakes winners include 2020 Eclipse Champion two-year-old filly Vequist, winner of the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies; fellow G1 winner Gretzky the Great and recent Stakes winner, Princess Theorem. Nyquist's four first-crop juvenile G1 horses last year has only been matched by Bernardini, Congrats, and Capote.
