Vigilantes Way raced three-wide through the stretch but had enough left in the tank to hold off the late charge of Miss Teheran to win the Listed Miss Liberty Stakes by a half-length at Monmouth Park August 28.
It was the third Stakes victory for the Medaglia d’Oro filly, and her second over the Monmouth Park turf course. Vigilantes Way also became jockey Paco Lopez's seventh winner on the Monmouth Park card.
As per her usual running style, Vigilantes Way sat just off the pace in third, saving ground while hugging the inside rail. Midway through the far turn she made her move, swinging out into the clear while racing three-wide. She continued her rally into the stretch, digging in gamely to hold off the late challenge from Miss Teheran to earn the victory.
Bred in Kentucky by her owner, Phipps Stable, Vigilantes Way is out of the multiple Graded Stakes-placed Unbridled mare Salute, a daughter of Champion and multiple G1 producer Personal Ensign. Vigilantes Way is a half-sister to G1 winner Mr Speaker, G3 winner Fire Away, and G3-placed Snap Decision.
In addition to Vigilantes Way, Medaglia d’Oro’s other 2021 Stakes winners include Golden Sixty (multiple G1 winner and recently named Horse of the Year in Hong Kong for the second consecutive year), Souper Escape (G3 Trillium Stakes), Risk Taking (G3 Withers), Beautiful Gift (G3 Santa Ysabel), Moonlight d’Oro (G3 Las Virgenes), Sea Foam (Evan Shipman Stakes) and Navratilova (Tepin Stakes).
