Golden Sixty secured a 12th straight success when he rallied from well off the pace to win the G1 Stewards’ Cup at Sha Tin Jan. 24.
The Australian-bred gelding by Medaglia d’Oro has now won back-to-back G1’s, having captured the Longines Hong Kong Mile over the same course in December. Golden Sixty improved his overall record to 15 wins from 16 starts.
Dropped out to the rear of the field early by jockey Vincent Ho, Golden Sixty began his customary late surge as the field entered the home straight. Despite not displaying as rapid an acceleration as he had in previous races, Golden Sixty began to reel in the front-runners while charging down the center of the course.
Golden Sixty surged ahead nearing of the wire to beat rival Southern Legend by a determined head.
Golden Sixty is out of the Distorted Humor mare Gaudeamus, a Group 2 winner in Ireland, and is one of five winners from her seven foals to race.
Medaglia d’Oro has sired 147 Black Type winners. Golden Sixty became his sire’s 26th G1 winner last month when took the Longines Hong Kong Mile.
Medaglia d'Oro will stand the 2021 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for a fee of $150,000, stands and nurses.
