Hong Kong’s star galloper Golden SIxty staked his claim as one of the best produced by his sire Medaglia d’Oro with a scintillating win in the G1 Hong Kong Mile at Sha Tin on Saturday, 13 December.
The Australian-bred five-year-old made it 14 wins from 15 starts in the performance of Hong Kong’s annual International meeting, powering to a dominant victory over Southern Legend.
Given plenty of time to settle by rider Vincent Ho, Golden Sixty gave the leaders five lengths turning in at the 400m and picked up a star-studded field in a matter of a few strides.
The win made him Medaglia d’Oro’s 26th individual G1 winner.
Golden Sixty is out of the American-bred mare Gaudeamus and is one of five winners from her seven to race.
He first passed through the sale ring as a yearling at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale in 2017, making AU$120,000 before again being offered as a 2YO at the NEw Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale where his current trainer Francis Lui paid NZ$300,000 for him.
A former shuttle sire who completed eight seasons on the Darley stallions' Australian roster, Medaglia d’Oro now stands solely in at Jonabell Farm, Kentucky at a service fee of US$150,000, stands and nurses.
