Nyquist’s two-year-old daughter, Derby Quest, becomes her sire’s 15th winner after breaking her maiden with an impressive first to last finish on the turf at Del Mar November 22nd.
Trailing the field for the best part of the mile maiden contest, Derby Quest was asked to make her move as the two-year-old fillies made their way into the final turn. With her ears pricked, Derby Quest picked her rivals off one by one as she entered the stretch four wide and went on to cruise across the finish line winning by two-and-a-half lengths.
Bred in Kentucky by Don Alberto Corp, Derby Quest is out the Listed placed Dynaformer mare, Explainable. Her second dam is G2 winner and multiple GS placed Bank Audit.
Nyquist continues atop the first crop sire list following Vequist’s victory in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies earlier this month, her second G1 win. In addition to Vequist, Nyquist is also the sire of Gretzky the Great, winner of the G1 Summer Stakes. Nyquist is the first freshman sire since Danzig in 1984 to have two G1-winning juveniles before the end of September.
Nyquist will stand the 2021 breeding season at Jonabell Farm in Kentucky for $75,000, stands and nurses.
