Nyquist’s two-year-old filly, Princess Theorem, proved she gained the necessary experience in her third-place turf debut to win impressively second time out on the dirt at Churchill on October 30th. Her four-length victory in the mile-and-a-sixteenth contest makes her the 12th winner for her sire.
Sitting off the pace on the rail through most of her trip, Princess Theorem made her bid coming three wide off the top of the stretch. She continued to open up down the stretch, pulling away to win comfortably by four.
Bred in Kentucky by Barry & Judith Becker, Princess Theorem is out of the G2-winning and G1-placed Street Cry mare Princess Haya, who has bred four winners from four starters. Her notable siblings include G2-placed Prince of Arabia as well as G1-placed and Stakes winner, Lady Kate.
Nyquist is the first freshman sire since Danzig in 1984 to have two G1-winning juveniles before the end of September. His notable first-crop winners include G1 Spinaway winner Vequist, who goes next in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, and G1 Summer Stakes winner Gretzky the Great, who heads to the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.
