The extraordinary success of Nyquist’s first crop continued to be seen on October 7th as the two-year-old Slashing became his sire’s ninth winner in a maiden special weight at Gulfstream Park West.
Sent off as the second choice in the field of seven, the bay colt was quickest out of the gate in the eight-panel event, and never looked back as he made every call a winning one and crossed the finish line five and one-quarter lengths in front.
Bred in Kentucky by Brereton C. Jones, Slashing is out of the G3-placed Proud Citizen mare Proud Pearl, a half-sister to G1 Kentucky Oaks and G1 Alabama winner Proud Spell as well as multiple Stakes winner No Distortion and Stakes-placed Really Proud.
Nyquist is also the sire of G1 Spinaway winner Vequist, G1 Summer Stakes winner Gretzky The Great, Saratoga and Keeneland winner as well as G1 Spinaway-placed Lady Lilly, Saratoga winner Team Merchants, Ellis Park winners Assertive Style and Dream Quist, Laurel debut winner Kwist, and Churchill debut winner Seeking Seca.
