Freshman sire Frosted enjoyed a spectacular Saturday afternoon on September 19th, gaining two new winners within the space of an hour. Tkotchke won going six furlongs on the dirt at Churchill Downs before Likeable absolutely romped by eight lengths going one mile on the dirt at Belmont Park. The victories take Frosted to six juvenile winners from his first crop.
Making his second start for trainer Steve Asmussen, Tkotchke broke alertly and sat in fourth along the rail down the backstretch. Biding his time waiting for room around the turn, he switched to the outside at the top of the stretch and hit the front before holding off a late challenge from Southern Passage to win by a nose.
Bred in Kentucky by Glory Days Breeding, Inc., Tkotchke is out of the Stakes-placed Distorted Humor mare One For Jim and is a half-brother to G1-placed and $500,000-earner Bold Conquest.
Also making his second start after a runner-up finish on debut at Saratoga, Likeable went straight to the front and never looked back, pulling away in the stretch to win easily by eight lengths under a motionless Luis Saez.
Bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet Farm, Likeable is out of the Stakes-winning Medaglia d'Oro mare Dashing Debby and is a half-brother to multiple Stakes winner Bronze Star and G1-placed Stakes winner Dawn the Destroyer. A $350,000 Keeneland September yearling, Likeable races for Repole Stable, St. Elias Stable and Stonestreet Farm and is trained by Todd Pletcher.
In addition to Tkotchke and Likeable, Frosted's other juvenile winners include TDN Rising Star Inject by six on debut at Ellis, TDN Rising Star Travel Column by four on debut at Churchill Downs (she heads to the G1 Darley Alcibiades next), Frosted Prayer by 10 lengths at Churchill Downs, and Restored Order on the turf at Saratoga. Frosted is the only freshman sire with multiple TDN Rising Stars in 2020.
