Looked over by many of the viewing audience at odds of 18-1, Nyquist's two-year-old daughter Assertive Style posted an impressive win on August 28th at Ellis Park, becoming the fourth winner from the first crop of her Kentucky Derby-winning sire.
Quick out of the gate, Assertive Style settled into third after a quarter of a mile and actually dropped back into fourth place at the half-mile mark. Never far from the leaders at any point, the dark bay or brown juvenile skimmed the rail around the final turn and passed the leaders in mid-stretch to score by a comfortable margin at the wire.
Bred by her owner Machmer Hall in Kentucky, Assertive Style is out of the Stakes-placed Scat Daddy mare Sca Doodle. Hers is the immediate family of Champion grass mare and six-time G1 winner Tepin.
Nyquist's other juvenile winners include Woodbine maiden special winner Gretzky The Great, slated next to run in the G1 Summer Stakes on September 20, other Ellis Park maiden special winner Dream Quist, headed to the G3 Pacahontas Stakes at Churchill on September 3, and Saratoga maiden special weight winner Lady Lily.
