Bernardini’s four-year-old daughter Lady Kate broke through to score her first career Black Type victory with a dominant wire-to-wire performance in the one-mile, $100,000 Groupie Doll Stakes on August 9th at Ellis Park.
Breaking alertly under jockey Florent Geroux, Lady Kate went straight to the front and never looked back, pulling away in the stretch to win easily by almost five lengths for owner Anderson Stables and trainer Eddie Kenneally. The win improves her record to five wins from eleven starts and takes her career earnings to just shy of $250,000.
A $485,000 Keeneland September yearling, Lady Kate was bred in Kentucky by Eileen H. Hartis & Godolphin. She is a daughter of the G2 winner and G1-placed Street Cry mare Princess Haya, and is a half-sister to MGSp Prince of Arabia.
Lady Kate is Bernardini’s 76th career Black Type winner, a list that includes 15 G1 winners. His other top runners in 2020 include G2 Blue Grass Stakes and Ellis Park Derby winner Art Collector, who will be one of the favorites for the September 5th Kentucky Derby.
