Bernardini’s three-year-old daughter Micheline found the winner's circle twice as a juvenile last year including the Sorority Stakes in her second start when she broke her maiden. She stepped up strong in her first start of 2020 with a second in the G3 Sweetest Chant Stakes in February, just missing the win by three-quarters of a length.
The sophomore seems to have a liking for the Gulfstream turf course as she ran off an impressive winner of the Honey Ryder Stakes at one and one-sixteenth miles on May 2. Micheline broke her normal way, finding a good stride near the back of the pack, but she started picking off horses approaching the far turn then took the lead as the field turned for home and won impressively.
Micheline was bred in Kentucky by her owner, Godolphin, and is out of Panty Raid, winner of the G1 Juddmonte Spinster and G1 American Oaks Invitational. Panty Raid is a full sister to St. John’s River, winner of the G2 Delaware Oaks and second in the G1 Kentucky Oaks.
Bernardini is the sire of more than 70 career stakes winners - including 14 G1 winners - including the likes of top-tier fillies Cavorting, Dame Dorothy and Rachel's Valentina. Daughters of Bernardini are now excelling in their second careers. In 2019, Bernardini was the broodmare sire of five G1 winners, including Breeders' Futurity winner Maxfield (by Street Sense).
