A place among Australia’s top three-year-old fillies seems assured for Asiago following her determined win in Friday’s G3 Kembla Grange Classic.
Already a Stakes winner over males in the G3 Spring Stakes at Newcastle last November, Asiago seems destined to add to the lofty reputation built by her sire Medaglia d’Oro in Australia as she heads toward better races.
Asiago, one of Medaglia d’Oro’s 138 Stakes winners, has now won five of her past seven starts and is a member of the final Australian crop of a stallion whose southern hemisphere stars include the G1 winners Astern">Astern, Flit, Vancouver and Crown Prosecutor.
Another of Medaglia d’Oro’s Australian-bred runners, Golden Sixty is one of the rising stars of Hong Kong racing.
Asiago had a perfect run just off the pace for most of the Kembla Grange event, but had to force a clear passage in the final 200m before claiming a well-deserved success in the final stride.
Medaglia d’Oro stood the latest northern hemisphere breeding season at Jonabell Farm, Kentucky at a fee of $200,000, stands and nurses.
