A brilliant debut by Hanseatic in the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes at Sandown in Victoria has offered the prospect of another high-class Australian runner for Darley shuttler Street Boss.
Hanseatic showed both good racing manners and superior ability in his defeat of Dubai Star and River Night coming from midfield at the halfway point of the 1,000m race to overpower his opposition and score by 1-3/4 lengths.
The colt is trained by Anthony Freedman who last season prepared the outstanding juvenile filly Lyre (Lonhro) to win the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes for Godolphin.
Hanseatic is from a superior sprinting family, his third dam Scandinavia having produced Helsinge, the dam of the unbeaten Black Caviar.
He is also the 38th Stakes winner for Street Boss, who will stand the forthcoming breeding season at Jonabell Farm, Kentucky, at $20,000, Stands and nurses.
