Marzo earned his first career Graded Stakes win with an easy victory in the G3 Sycamore Stakes at Keeneland on October 17.
The four-year-old son of Medaglia d’Oro broke alertly and sat in third throughout most of the race before charging to the front in the stretch and pulling away to win by about two lengths in the 12-furlong turf contest.
A $1,000,000 Keeneland September yearling, Marzo was bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings. He is out of the Stakes-winning Smart Strike mare Spring Party, a half-sister to G1 Forego S. winner Emcee, G2 Al Maktoum Challenge S. winner Surfer, and G3-placed Baffled, dam of G1 winner Constitution, G3 winner Jacaranda, and G2 winner Boynton.
Marzo becomes the 8th northern hemisphere Graded Stakes winner for Medaglia d’Oro in 2019, along with Cambier Parc (G1 Del Mar Oaks and G1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup), Higher Power (G1 TVG Pacific Classic), Elate (G2 Delaware Handicap, G2 Fleur de Lis), Fools Gold, (G3 Waya), Café Americano (G3 Pucker Up), Majestic Eagle (G3 American Stakes) and Golden Award (G3 Shuvee). He is also the sire of G1 winners Flit (G1 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield) and Crown Prosecutor (G1 Rosehill Guineas) in Australia in 2019.
Medaglia d'Oro will stand the 2020 breeding season at Jonabell Farm in Kentucky for a fee of $200,000, stands and nurses.
