Fools Gold took command at the top of the stretch and cruised to a three-quarter length victory in the G3 Fasig-Tipton Waya Stakes at Saratoga Aug. 4.
It was the first Stakes victory for the four-year-old filly by Medaglia d’Oro, who entered the race off a runner-up finish in the Listed River Memories Stakes last time out. An Ultra-consistent performer, Fools Gold has been in-the-money in ten of her twelve lifetime starts.
Settled into second by jockey Javier Castellano, Fools Gold tracked Sky Full of Stars through the first mile of the 12-furlong contest. Fools Gold ranged up alongside Sky Full of Stars on the far turn before taking command at the top of the stretch. She cruised through the final furlong full of run, and easily repelled the late bids of Get Explicit and Santa Monica to post the win.
Fools Gold was bred in Kentucky by Regis Farms LP, and is out of Moment of Majesty, winner of the Listed Belle Mahone Stakes and Zadracarta Stakes. She hails from the immediate family of Champion Turf mare Fiji, winner of the G1 Yellow Ribbon and G1 Gamely Handicap.
Medaglia d'Oro is the sire of 33 Stakes performers in 2019 - nine Group or Graded winners - including Elate, winner of the G2 Delaware Handicap and G2 Fleur de Lis; Majestic Eagle, winner of the G3 American Stakes; Golden Award, winner of the G3 Shuvee and G1 Rosehill Guineas winner, Crown Prosecutor.
With the 2019 sales season soon to get underway, it should be noted that Medaglia d'Oro was the sire of eight million-dollar yearlings last year. Watch for his first select yearlings selling at Fasig-Tipton Saratoga in August.
