Another Darley-sired two-year-old has leapt into G1 Golden Slipper calculations with the victory of Tenley in Saturday’s G2 Riesling Stakes at Randwick.
Tenley made a strong statement with a brilliant 1-1/2 length win that ranks as one of the most impressive two-year-old performances of the season and gives her a three-from-three record.
After settling at the rear of the field, jockey James McDonald brought the daughter of Medaglia d’Oro with a run that carried her smoothly past the leaders and on to a consummate victory. Tenley quinellaed the race with Exhilarates, a Godolphin stablemate, and Vincere Vlare a half length away third.
Tenley is out of the winning Lonhro mare Fratianne from the family of the good racemare and producer Skating whose seven Stakes wins included two at G1 level.
Tenley becomes the 124th Stakes winner for Medaglia d’Oro, who stands at Jonabell Farm at a fee of $200,000 stands and nurses.
