Too Charming took the lead shortly after the start on her way to winning the Tropical Park Oaks at Gulfstream Park Dec. 29.
It was the first Stakes victory for the three-year-old daughter of Bernardini, who just missed taking the Open Mind Stakes at Monmouth Park earlier this year.
Breaking sharply out of the starting gate, Too Charming was sent immediately to the lead by jockey Paco Lopez. Too Charming continued to lead as the field through the first three-quarters of a mile. Through the far turn and into the stretch, Too Charming still led the way as the rest of the runners began to reel her in. Closing fastest of all was Too Charming’s stablemate, Andina Del Sur, who battled the longtime leader the length of the stretch before falling a head short at the wire.
Bred in Kentucky, Too Charming races as a homebred for Godolphin. Too Charming is out of the talented racemare, Tout Charmant, winner of the G1 Matriarch and G1 Del Mar Oaks. Too Charming is a half-sister to Dancing House (by Tapit), winner of the G2 Barbara Fritchie Stakes.
Too Charming becomes the 66th Stakes winner for her sire, Bernardini, who is represented by 2018 Graded Stakes winners Berned (G3 Molly Pitcher) and Lewis Bay (G3 Bed o’ Roses).
Bernardini will stand the 2019 breeding season at Jonabell Farm in Kentucky for $50,000, stands and nurses.
