Gyllen took command two furlongs from home and then held off the late challenge from Crossed Baton to take the G2 Prix Eugene Adam at Maisons-Laffitte by a length 15 July.
The 3-year-old Godolphin colt capped off an impressive weekend for his sire, Medaglia d’Oro. On Saturday, the stallion’s dual G1-winning daughter, Elate, captured the G2 Delaware Handicap by four lengths in her 2018 debut.
Settled in fourth by jockey Mickael Barzalona, Gyllen tracked leader Native American through the early stages of the 10-furlong contest. With just over two furlongs to run, Gyllen made his move and swept past Native American to take the lead. Crossed Baton rallied in the final furlong to challenge the new leader, but Gyllen held off his rival to win by a length.
Gyllen was bred in Kentucky and races as a homebred for Godolphin. He was produced from the winning Mr. Prospector mare Miss Halory. Miss Halory is the dam of G3 winner Stormalory and is a half-sister to Graded Stakes winners Halory Hunter (G2W/G1-placed), Van Nistelrooy (G2W/G1-placed), Brushed Halory (G3W), Prory (G3W), and Key Lory (G3W).
In addition to Gyllen, Medaglia d’Oro is the sire of 2018 Stakes winners Elate (G2 Delaware Handicap), Bolt d’Oro (G2 San Felipe) and Enticed (G3 Gotham Stakes). The stallion is also the sire of Champion filly Wonder Gadot, recent winner of the prestigious $1,000,000 Queen’s Plate.
